Recipe: Vata Latte

Mar 01, 2019

1 tbsp raw cacao powder

½ tsp Ashwagandha

½ tsp Shatavari

½ tsp cinnamon

Pinch of salt

1 tsp Honey (optional)

8 oz Plant-based milk (I recommend hemp milk for Vata!)

Mix all ingredients except honey. Gently heat on the stovetop (do not boil). Stir in honey and serve!

Why Vatas need this latte:

  • Ashwagandha powerfully reduces anxiety and calms your adrenal systems. This root is going to give you more stamina throughout the day, instead of a caffeine-induced early burnout. Avoid ashwagandha if you have estrogen dominance issues like PCOS or endometriosis.
  • Vatas tend to have hormonal imbalances because their systems are very variable - just like you’re always moving and changing, your hormones like to do the same! Shatavari is a wonderful herb for bringing your hormones into balance, particularly estrogen and progesterone. It’s supportive throughout a woman’s life - from just starting your menstrual cycle through pregnancy and even into menopause. No worries - it’s great for men’s hormonal health too!
  • Cacao is full of antioxidants and essential minerals, which tend to be depleted in Vata. It’s warming and building, helping you to have the strength you need for a full day!
  • Hemp milk is the best milk to use for Vata because it’s full of protein and healthy fats, giving Vatas the extra energy that they need.

I’d recommend starting with ½ tsp each of Ashwagandha and Shatavari, seeing how your body reacts to the herbs, and then over time, increasing to 1 tsp each.
