Ooh Baby! Herbs to Safely Support Your Pregnancy Journey
Oct 20, 2022
We know that safety is a top priority for choosing what to consume before, during, or after pregnancy. If you’re considering taking herbs to support your body at any of these stages, we’re here to help.
Below is a list of our prenatal-safe blends that we recommend, as well as some tasty ways to enjoy them. We encourage you to play around with different recipes and find what works best for you and your body!
Everyone’s pregnancy journey and health history is different, so we always advise that you discuss any product use with your healthcare provider, especially if you are pregnant or nursing.
This blend was formulated specifically to support a healthy pregnancy. It’s also safe to consume while you are preparing to conceive. During pregnancy, it is vital to ensure you’re consuming nutrient-rich foods for you and your baby, and that is just what we had in mind with this blend.
Dandelion root is the main functional herb in this blend. Loaded with amazing nutrients in their bio-available form, dandelion is filled with zinc, calcium, Vitamin K, potassium, and iron. Collectively, these nutrients are great at combating common pregnancy woes like constipation, acid reflux, hemorrhoids, and general inflammation.
If you are trying to limit your coffee (pregnant or not), this blend also makes a great replacement for your daily java due to its deliciously bitter flavor profile that’s reminiscent of coffee. While it isn’t necessarily energizing, there is a small amount of caffeine due to the raw cacao in this blend!
This blend is also formulated with Ceylon cinnamon, which supports healthy blood sugar and collagen to support a growing belly! Keep in mind that Meet My Wombmate is not a replacement for your prenatal vitamin.
How to enjoy: This blend can be enjoyed any time of day in a warm milk beverage with a sweetener of choice (we prefer maple syrup) or added to beverages you already enjoy!
If you want something a bit more targeted for sluggish digestion and inflammation support, Follow Your Gut is your new BFF.
Formulated with turmeric, black pepper, cayenne, astragalus, and ginger, these warming herbs are fantastic at gently supporting digestion by keeping things moving. Warming spices like these feel warm in our bodies, so it’s the perfect blend for those colder months or when you want to feel cozy.
How to enjoy: We love preparing this blend as a golden milk latte or by mixing it into food — it makes a great addition to a savory salad dressing.
This single herb is found in Follow Your Gut, but it can be enjoyed on its own. Astragalus is an adaptogenic herb, and it is also modulating to our immune systems! What this means is that you can take this herb in preparation for the cold/flu season to (hopefully) ward off any illnesses. Astragalus is also used a lot for digestive health because it is packed with prebiotic fiber (which feeds the good bacteria in our gut). Because of this, it can support healthy digestion during pregnancy.
How to enjoy: Add into your favorite food or drink; some of us like to mix it into our morning herbal lattes or coffee.
Reishi is an adaptogenic mushroom that many enjoy taking for its stress-reducing qualities. During pregnancy, it is most commonly used to support stress and anxiety, which is something we could all use. It was often used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to promote calmness and balance, so you can get in touch with your zen. Similar to Astragalus, this herb can be used to strengthen the immune system and can be enjoyed any time of day.
How to enjoy: We like to mix this herb into our coffee or enjoy in the evening in a warm milk latte.
Moringa is a nutritive herb that is perfect for supporting blood sugar, as well as helping you to get some greens in your day! This powerful plant is rich in iron (great to use in preparation for pregnancy), potassium, and vitamin C—a true superfood. The taste is similar to matcha and although this herb does not contain any caffeine, it is still considered to be a bit stimulating, so it is best used earlier in the day!
This herb also packs a punch in the greens department and is perfect for busy people on the go who need to get their greens in! For those preparing to conceive or for those who are pregnant, chlorella is a freshwater algae best known for its mineral-rich profile and ability to help shuttle toxins out of our bodies.
How to enjoy: We like mixing chlorella into a green smoothie or into water for a green goddess shot.
